There is no shame in daydreaming. We all have goals in life that sometimes we see too far off to even attempt. Under some of the circumstances it is understandable. Now, there is shame in acting without thinking. Like the proverb says, it is definitely a nightmare. It causes reckless behavior. If I drive without knowing where I’m going, no one knows where I’m going to end up.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

 Duties and Responsibilities:

Nuclear medicine technologists use a scanner to create images of various areas of a patient’s body. They prepare radioactive drugs and give them to patients undergoing the scans. The radioactive drugs cause abnormal areas of the body to appear different from normal areas in the images making it easier for the doctor to see these areas. They explain imaging procedures to the patient and answer questions, follow safety procedures to protect themselves and the patient from unnecessary radiation exposure, examine machines to ensure that they are working properly, prepare radioactive drugs and administer them to the patient, monitor the patient to check for unusual reactions to the drugs, operate equipment that creates images of areas in the body, such as images of organs, and keep detailed records of procedures.

Salary:

$70,180 per year

$33.74 per hour

Education:

An associate’s degree is required although some do have bachelor’s degrees. License is not required to become a nuclear medicine technologist in all states. Some become certified although not necessary. A 12 month program that focuses in this medical area is needed.

Reflection:

I think I would want to work in this field because I have the skills to calm people down with their emotional stress.

Glenn Cunningham

Glenn Cunningham  was born in Atlanta, Kansas in 1909. He is considered by many the greatest American miler of all time. He went through a tragedy turned miracle. His legs were severely burned in a school fire at age 8. His brother who was then 13 died in the fire. His legs and feet were destroyed. They wanted to cut off his legs but his parents did not allow it. He was told her would never walk again. With a large sum of faith and determination he learned to walk and eventually run with a new kind of therapy. He competed in the summer  Olympics of 1932 and 1936.and won many medals and achievements.

Struggles will be present throughout all of our lives. This is just the way it is and some interpret it as a curse that we humans are born with. Now, no matter what we will have obstacles, but your take on it or perspective will determine if you will come out successful in the heap of trouble or desperation. If I get a difficult assignment I can just as easily give up or not even start it. That will take me to a guaranteed failure. Now, if I try hard and don’t give up then I can break from the chains that are said to trap the fearful.

Monitor Surveillance Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Monitor surveillance technicians observe the electrical activity of heartbeats which is graphically displayed on monitors in cardiac care units of hospitals.  They examine these patterns and provide the results to physicians and nursing staff.  They Gather and report heart pattern information on patients ,operate monitoring computers that at the same time display multiple patient results, Identify heart pattern changes and abnormalities, clean and maintain equipment, battery packs, and wiring systems.

Salary: $26,000 - $41,00

Education: 

Students wanting to become Monitor Surveillance Technicians should take math, science, and computer technology courses in high school. After they graduate high school they can enroll in training programs at vocational schools, community colleges, or hospitals.  Program length varies from three months to two years.

Reflection: I would not like to become one because I have other dreams and goals I would want to be and accomplish

I think what this means is that sometimes we form an obsession with being the alpha and coming out on top. Although it is seen as pretty healthy, too much focus on outdoing our peers can mess with our head and lead to disastrous results if we do not get the opportunity. It’s a much healthier mindset to believe we can improve and increase our value and self-worth. If I choose to improve my running time, get a better grade, and improve my writing I will feel more empowered to do so than to be better than my peers. I wish well upon them and myself so I choose to be positive about my own improvements.

Health Sciences Librarian

Health Sciences Librarian

Duties and Responsibilities:

A health science librarian provides easy access to health information through books, journals, tapes, multimedia presentations, and the Internet.  They help those who need the information by showing them which method of information works best for them. Health science librarians work in a variety of places such as the library of a health organization, a pharmaceutical company, health information centers, and medical schools. They are responsible so the information can be accessed easily. Sometimes they create their own websites to aid in this knowledge.

Average Salary:   

$20,000 - $30,000 (Library Technicians)

$35,000 - $55,000 (Librarians)

Education:

Students must graduate from high school, taking classes such as English, math, typing, and science. A four-year bachelor's degree is required, including courses such as science and computer science. A master's degree in library science (MLS) is mandatory. Courses include scientific literature, biomedical communication, bibliographic resource use, library organization and management, and standard cataloging systems. 

I think I would like to be a Health Science Librarian because it seems like a lot of work but it pays well and I am already somewhat familiar with the computer database.
