“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”
-Aristotle

Education is very important. Facts and calculations play a very important role in our life. But all that mathematics and good grammar do not make us educated. What makes us educated is those components PLUS the education of values and the building of our true character. I can be a math genius but if I have no morality I might as well be seen as an ignorant dunce. Our heart is just as important as our brain. Both should be well taken care of so we could truly see ourselves as intelligent people.

“CTR connects you to happiness and success-CTW disconnects.”
-Mr.Haymore

Our pursuit of happiness must stem from within. We begin by learning that choosing the right is the only way to lead a happy successful life filled with inner peace and opportunities. We then take action to pursue it actively and begin stemming the seeds to a new perspective in life. If I choose the right I will be happy because I know I’m doing what is correct and nothing bad can stem from it. Is hall be worry free. As soon as I start choosing the wrong them the doors of despair and sadness shall follow me because my conscience rests uneasy.

“It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
-Anon

I think that the ego and pride of the human spirit makes us underestimate the power of peer pressure. As strong as our will is we are almost always inclined to fit in and be well liked.  Constant need of approval from people who we consider superior fills us with hope that one day we can be at the same level and go promptly beyond them. We want to surpass their status in a social level and that’s why we sometimes associate ourselves with negative company. They will influence us in a non-productive way. I rather be alone than to surround myself with people who want to sway me to be involved in illegal activities. Sometimes we need time to ourselves to self-meditate about our choices.

“You cannot do wrong and feel right. It’s impossible.”
-Ezra T. Benson

Our conscience is given to us as a gift to be able to distinguish right from wrong. We are not heartless nor ignorant towards our feelings. They are forever present even if we ignore them or try to avoid them. We reap the seed we plant. Cause and effect can be applied to this. If you do right then you feel right but if do wrong then you’ll feel wrong. There isn’t a loophole to our feelings. Things happen and we can’t control our emotions but we can control our actions.

“I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur in the reproach of our consciences.”
-Robert E. Lee

It’s preferable to endure struggles while working to do what is correct than to have to have regrets biting at our consciousness. Those regrets and feelings of negativity stemming from avoiding the struggle don’t go away too quickly, that’s if they go away at all. The satisfaction of doing what you’re supposed to comes with not having to worry about feeling bad about it afterward.

“The right way is not always the easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.”
-Margaret Chase Smith

Taking the easy way out usually involves compromising your morals to not bother to work hard towards the complexity of ethics. Popularity has little to nothing to do with what is correct. If you pay attention, the revolutionaries against repression have fought against popular opinion, even if they were left to fight alone. They had courage and did not back down against the struggle.

“The reward of a job well done is to have done it."
-Anonymous

I think what this means is that doing what you are supposed to, is in itself very satisfying. We have responsibilities and when we have completed them adequately we feel relieved from the constant thought of having complete that task. You remain in a calm manner because it feels so great to not worry about it.
Anti-Jewish laws
Jews had little control over the areas they resided in because in Russia, Jews could only live in certain areas. They couldn’t live in large cities or own property.
Religious persecution
After the assassination of the Russian monarch, Czar Alexander II, leaders falsely accused Jews of the murder. This lead to pogrom attacks that had Russians killing, burning, and looting in Jewish villages

Jews had to endure prejudice and discrimination like other minorities in the U.S.
  • Private schools and clubs refused to accept Jews.
  • Hospitals and law firms wouldn’t accept Jewish doctors and lawyers, and sometimes jobs explicitly requested Christian workers.

Positive Side
  • Skillful Jews were well equipped to perform manual and manufacturing jobs.
  • Free education was valued because it was quite costly back in Russia.
  • Public colleges were inexpensive and by 1910 Jewish youths were still in school than any other ethnic group.
  • They could freely practice their religion without being persecuted.

“Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”

-Margaret Thatcher

We are well aware of what is correct. The beauty of it is the choice we have. What we choose defines our character. Maybe it’s not the easiest thing but it is what will benefit us in the long run. Not only do we send out good vibes to the world but we gain personal pride as well. If a person drops some money and I am in need of it I shall tap them on the shoulder and give it back. For that is what is correct. I will choose the right no matter how easy it is to avoid it. We have to work on it a little each day and believe in our ability to win that inner struggle.

The Sting of the Scorpion
A little boy and his family were having a picnic in the Desert and his parents always told him to wear shoes to protect him from all that could hurt him on the sandy desert floors. He decided that even though he knew sandals were not shoes he would wear them instead of wearing actual closed shoes.  As he was walking he felt something sting him in the arch of his foot. When he looked down he realized it was a scorpion. As he yelped in pain he called out to his parents who then put him in a car and rushed him to the nearest hospital...two hours away. After checking him out and administering anesthesia the doctor took care of the wound. He said that only infants and those that were malnourished were the ones who wounds would pose a real threat.

The lesson learned in this story is that all could have been avoided if the little boy had only listened to his parents. They told him to follow instructions for his own good. They didn't mean any harm but instead were taking precaution for his own safety. I also learned not to compromise your values. The boy knew that sandals were not appropriate footwear but he decided to put them on and convince himself they were okay to wear when in reality they were not. Choosing the right will ALWAYS end up benefiting you and never hurting you. Being aware that rules are up for a reason will help you choose the right decision and avoid many unfortunate things.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing”
-Theodore Roosevelt

I believe that once again we have found the quote that shoes the simplicity of doing what is correct. We go back to basics. We consider the values and morals that have been implemented in us thanks to society and it comes naturally. We figure it isn’t that difficult to do what is right when we are aware of our morals. There is nothing better than doing what is right. Do I cheat, or try my best? Well what is the correct thing to do? I won’t cheat. It’s that easy. It’s the best choice.
