Genetic Counselor
Duties and Responsibilities:
Genetic counselors provide assistance and education to individuals at risk or diagnosed of certain medical conditions that are inherited. These counselors help people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease. They take a look at family history to provide a better understanding of genetics and the disease being assessed. Testing, management, prevention, resources and research are offered in this field to make better decisions about how to lead a healthy life and make better choices. Some genetic counselors work outside clinical practice in research, education, public health and industry settings. They are knowledgeable and up-to-date on genetic developments and can help better analyze genetic testing. They can guide you and give you counseling on these areas.
Some of the specialty areas they focus on are:
*      Cancer genetics
*      Cardiovascular genetics
*      Metabolic genetics
*      Neurogenetics
*      Pediatric Genetics
*      Prenatal Genetics
Salary: $50,000-$66,00
Education: One must obtain a Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC Accredited Program. Once all requirements have been met, one may apply and sit for the Certification Examination

I think I would like to become a genetic counselor because it seems like an interesting job by finding out the family history and they get paid well.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT!!!
