“Cowardice asks the question ‘Is it safe?’
Expediency asks the question ‘Is it politic?’ Vanity asks the question ‘Is it
popular?’
But, conscience, asks the question ‘Is it
right?’ And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither
safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience
tells on that it is right.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
We are focusing on things that we shouldn’t
be focusing on. We pay attention to petty things. We merely scratch the surface
with foolish questions. The in depth analysis has been compromised by image. Taking chances and going out of our comfort
zone pulls us into the realm of adventure. Being different is a risk one should
be willing to take. We must fight against
this repression but forth upon us by society. We can fight against the puppetry
we are being forced to experience. We only live once and that cannot be wasted scratching
the surface. Our struggles should be worth it. What someone else believes fills
all other requisites might the morally wrong. How used are we to this that we
don’t even pay attention to the morality of it all? What we know to be right
may not fill all or any of those requisites but that does not take away from its
righteousness. We need to choose the
right whether its popular, safe, politic, or not.
